Spudman 2009

(More pics soon)

Last year Dave and several of his siblings and family members participated in the Spudman Triathlon. So, we decided to all do it this year. Eight of us participated and it was a great time.... well, it was great to be done :) The race consisted of a mile swim, 26 mile bike and a 6.2 mile run. We all finished and that was a great feat.

This was my first time doing a tri and it was not easy emotionally at the beginning. I had to start out by myself in my own wave of people on the swim. It was hard to say "see ya later" to my in-laws. I did get a bit teary as I was starting, I was nervous of the open water and not really knowing what to expect, plus being alone was not fun. However, as soon as I hit the water it was all good. I was pleased with my time of 3:18:23. I was concerned about the transitions and I wanted to do well there. I was pleasantly surprised to see that I did them pretty fast (for me anyway). The first transition took 5:06 mins, the second transition only took 1:58 minutes :) The bike seemed to take forever, it was mostly flat and very 'farmy'. Then the run was very hard after the getting off the bike. It was so hot, but so many people were so encouraging. I met a 60 something man who had ran the Desert Marathon the day before! If he could run then there was NO reason why I wouldn't be able to do it. At the end it was so great to hear my name as I crossed the finish line and then being greeted by Dave and the rest of the family. I was definitely on a high the rest of the day. I think a triathlon is so hard but not as hard as a marathon. I love that in the last year I have been able to do two half marathons, one full marathon and a triathlon. I also love that I have been so encouraged and have had so much support from my family and friends.

The Results: (in order)

1st Sean 2:16:19
2nd Bob 2:28:01
3rd Dave P 2:29:31
4th Karalee 2:33:09
5th Dave T 2:51:04
6th Sarah 3:01:30
7th Laura 3:18:23
8th Carmen 3:45:03

Yeah for all of us!!! We ROCKED!!!

The kids, of course, stayed with grandpa and with Aunt Norma. We seriously could not do it with out their help.
