Mylo, Ice and a clever comment

I was setting up some things at the school the other day and I had to tote around my two little ones. They were so good! Mylo made me laugh and as I was thinking about it, it made smile again.

I was putting pop in a cooler with ice. While I was doing this Mylo was just playing around in the 'gym' at the school. Then he came over and was playing with the ice in cooler. I told him several times he needed to stop, because I was sure people didn't want his little hands playing with the ice their pop was sitting in. Anyway, I turned around and sure enough there he was playing with the ice and putting it in his mouth! I gave him "the look" and he said,

"I was just checking if it was still cold mom... and it is"
(little eye brows going up and down as if reassuring his statement)

I couldn't help but laugh. Are you kidding me?! Did he really just say that!? He is too little to be so witty.

Food Faces

My friend, Alyssa, makes awesome food plates for her little guys. She is far more creative than I am. I have had a fun time putting food faces and food skewers together for my kids lately. The kids seem to enjoy it and I can get a variety of food all in one plate.

Mylo's food face has a mow hawk with apples slices and carrots, he has a cheese face, broccoli ears, banana nose and chicken nugget mouth and eyes. Leah's food face has cheese, carrots and nuggets hair, broccoli nose, apple mouth and ketchup cheeks.

After yesterday's RS lesson I thought I should post some of the 'fun' things I do as a mom for my kids. I don't do this all the time, but I want to remember that I did/do try to make our daily lives fun. Perhaps the kids won't remember this when they get old but they will have a reminder as they flip through pictures. Maybe they will think I was a pretty cool mom... I will just keep telling myself that!

Ah Mishi You're So Cute, You're So Cute, You Blow My Mind...

As I was cleaning my bathroom the other day Milli followed me in and was trying to get the bath toys. I loved to see her stretching and getting on her tippy toes as she tried to reach in. At one point she did fall in. She has a such a great smile. I just love it. While Dave was taking pictures she came closer to check it out. Mylo thinks that Milli's finger looks like a banana on this picture... ha ha, funny kid.

I have often given the kids a bath in the laundry room sink. Its perfect height and its fast and easy. Less mess than in the tub. Milli loved it. She kept on putting her face in the bubbles and of course splashing all over the place. I love to see babies with wet faces and their eye lashes look so long and beautiful. I think Milli really likes us to take pictures of her, she is always smiling for the camera.

I think these pictures are too cute not to have for ever and ever in our family book.

This is a picture of my darling little girl Leah. She drives me crazy at times but she also makes me so proud when she is kind or helpful or whend I see her be nice to those around her. This picture was taken a while ago (spring or summer). I love her eyes in this picture and her sweet little smile. AND since this is about Leah...The other day she came home from school with the Student of the Week award. How fun! Her note said. "Leah has been selected for the principal's award because Leah is helpful and kind to others. Leah takes her time to do her best work". YAY! I am so proud of her. She has been learning so much and I can see her progress. After my run the other day I came home to this note on the door (see picture below).

Can you tell what it says? Its piled together but this is was it said:

Mom Mylo and Milli
please come to my
party please can you
sign right here yes _________
Love Leah

How cute! I was REALLY surprised that she could sound things out and try and write them. I know they have been learning this at school and it she would soon be doing this... its pretty cool that she actually did it. YAY Leah!

I think I can, I think I can....

YAAYYY!!! That is all I want to say today... but I won't, I will expand on why I am so happy and screaming for joy. As I had mentioned before I had been having some major (MAJOR) shin splint issues and had to take a break from my running. Last weekend I ran seven miles and felt fine. I have continued with my training schedule right were I left off. This week I ran my planned 4,6,4 miles and it was great. I have been running with my friend Maricela (I will be doing the San Diego Marathon with her at the end of May) and it was great. My legs have not been hurting more than they are supposed to, I continue to take my meds and icing my shins and whatever else hurts after my run.

I ran 12 miles today!!! YAY for me! I was so nervous about it. I have never ran that distance my myself and its not easy on the brain. As I left for my run I saw my friend, who yelled out the window, giving me encouragement and it was awesome! I started crying and it wasn't even a mile away from home. After I composed myself I was in my groove and it was the best run I have had. I felt wonderful! I couldn't believe how good I was doing and staying on pace. I have been thinking how many people have been so supportive with my running. As a mother of three, this is no easy task. Juggling schedules and making sure the kids are being watched is not easy. Dave and my mom have made some serious schedule shifting to accommodate me. I can't thank them enough for that. As in life, we have friends along our way to give us the push and encouragement we need to make it through this journey, we have our Savior how has sacrificed more than we know to help us achieve our ultimate goal!

My sister-in-law, Amy, met me at mile 9 to finish out. As she and my brother, Esteban, drove up to meet me they couldn't believe it was me. It was so fun to see a familiar face smiling in amazement at me. Esteban said I looked "cool", that is pretty big deal coming from him ;) . The truth is that I love to run! I LOOOOOOVE IT! It gives me peace of mind, it allows me to think with out interruption from my little monkeys, it gives me a great work out and its so fun.

I am so grateful for all my family and friends who have shown such support during my training and for my training partners a long the way. I really don't think I could do this with out them.

Are you wondering why I have doughnuts up there? Well, this is all I want to eat today. I think I deserve them after 2:03 hours of running.

A Date with Big Al

Big Al is my wonderful father-in-law. We get along fabulously! Last week he called and said, "I know Dave's not taking you out for Valentine's day so, how about your my date?" I couldn't refuse that. The plan was to go to dinner with some old friends and then go watch a play. I drove out to Dave's parents house to meet up with Al and Craig and Bobby Beck picked us up. We went to Chili's and then to Hale Theater to watch "Cash on Delivery". It was SO much fun. We had some good laughs at dinner and the play was hilarious! We were red faced watching it. I think the picture below is funny because I can only imagine what people were thinking see all four of us together. Three older people and then me... They probably thought Al was a cradle robber, hahahaaa! Lucky guy :D . Al and I can totally joke around like that and I just love him. He is wonderful! Our next adventure will be "Phantom of the Opera", I can't wait!

Karen, Al and the Beck's used to go out all the time. I remember Karen talking about their outings often. It was fun to be part of it this past week.

Finally. Loving.Yourself

I have recently joined this online group that is GREAT! I love it. The past week I have had a tidy house, meal on the table, a shiny sink, laundry basically caught up (and I suck at that one), and best of all I have been smiling in the morning when I wake up!

I am very new at this 'program' but it is really working for me. Sharyl Register told me about it and so I went over to FlyLady.com and signed up. Its free and I have been surprised that I have kept up with it. I don't like to do the spring cleaning thing and this is a great way to get all my house clean one room at a time. It hasn't felt overwhelming at all. Plus, Dave and the kids have noticed my small changes and they are doing it too. Dave said, "the kitchen just feels so light and fresh, I want to be in here"... wow! That works for me!

I am still in the baby steps section of the program but I am just following along with all the other FLYBabies out there. I get about ten emails a day that keep me on track and encouraged. I thought I would share and hopefully help others that might be having a hard time getting all your houses in order.

I have to say, I have been loving myself more lately and I LOVE that. I also like to feel that I am doing my 'job' the way that I feel I should be doing it. Now, go over to FLYLady.com and start loving yourself.

Here's a link to the Baby Steps. Scroll down and you can see what you should be doing everyday. Its easy and NOT overwhelming at all. ENJOY!!!

Training Put on HOLD

This year is the year of the races for me. I have signed up to do a couple of marathons, a triathlon and I hope to run a half marathon in the fall. I am very excited for each race and training has been a lot of fun. I love to run, it gives me time for me and I feel that I am being proactive with my other goal (loosing weight). HOWEVER, for the last month or so I have started to have severe pain in my inner lower calves. I have tried massaging them, cold and hot compresses, medicine and rest. Nothing has worked. I finally had a doctor take a look and I have shin splints from over training. Over training? I am just following my training schedule. I have been running consistently for the last six months! I have been pushing myself too far on my short runs and aggravating my shins. It hurts to walk at time, but that is something I HAVE to do. After talking to my doctor, friends and Dave I have to put my training on hold, take my anti-inflammatory medicine and hope that the shin splints take care of themselves quickly. I didn't run today and I will not run for the next week. I feel that this might set me back just a bit but I have no choice. I am worried about it but "asi es la vida!"

It's my prayer that my skinny chicken legs/calves/shins recover quickly!

BIIIG Gaps!

Leah lost yet another tooth today. She cried, but its worth it. her snaggle tooth is not longer there and she has the cutest lisp now. I wonder how long I will have to see her without her new 'hugantic' (that's a Mylo word) gap in her mouth?

My heart is full

In this photo: Maricela looking fly; Diana Alley, Maricela, Sarah, Carrie stuffing bears; Sydni, Linetta, Laura Larsen, Julie Halling tying a baby blanket; Lois Zigitch, Cheryl and Geri Galloway helping with hygiene bags; Janet Williams, Mom sewing; Marge Page, Irene Nielson, Caroline Deters sewing; Martha Hilton, Mary Jean Alley cutting out bibs; Eleen Huber, Cheryl Galloway, Lois Zigitch, Betty Robison helping with hygiene bags; Carol Lemon, Janet Williams tying a baby blanket; Some of the completed items.

I have been blessed with a new calling. I am the Humanitarian Specialist in our ward. At first I thought this was a calling to make sure I didn't go inactive after my YW calling. I was not totally looking forward to my new calling until a few weeks ago when I went to the Humanitarian Center in SLC. The work all those people are doing is amazing. Dianne Taylor (RS Counselor) and I were so excited after visiting the center. I was also so pleased with the desire to help from the sisters in the ward. At the beginning of the meeting we watched a short video on how all the things we would be making are helping those around the world that are in need. It really didn't seem like much to make a few baby blankets, school bags, feminine hygiene bags, bibs and teddy bears. But, knowing how much people would appreciate our work, it really paid off. We are so blessed to have this great opportunity to served those on the other side of the world! My heart was/is so full as I see those lives we will touch. Not only that but how this has touched MY life. I am so grateful for the sisters that helped me put this together, from coming over to cut patterns, to the people who have stuffed bears, sewed loads of things, surged bags, tied quilts, lent us sewing machines and even those brethren who helped us set up and those who watched our kids as we worked. I am so excited for the Humanitarian efforts we are making in our ward.

Together we really are making a difference!

9 Months Old

I cannot believe its been 9 months since Milli was born! She is doing so well and progressing so much. She is sitting up by herself, army crawling, standing up on things, eating like a champ, she is finally on a schedule and she is still in love with me (Yay! for me). She is such a doll and like most moms I simply can't get enough of my kids. Milli is no exception. If I am holding her and someone comes up to talk to her, no matter who it is, she will 'hide' her face into me and act all shy. It's so cute, it totally melts my heart. She also loves to be in the shopping cart and looks around at all the fun things she wishes she could grab. In the last three months she has made so much progress with her sleeping, eating and schedule we couldn't be more pleased. She is still a little baby but growing steadily.

Her latest stats:

weight: 16lbs 2oz, she grew a whopping 2 1/2 lbs! (10%)
height: 27 3/4 inches, two inches taller than last time (50%)
head: 17 3/4 inches (75%)

Two nights ago she stood up on her crib by herself and stood for a while, here comes trouble!
Milli loves her binky, oso and blanket to got to sleep with. Its fun to see her cuddle up with to these items when we lay her down to sleep.

Toothless...again

Leah's proud new smile and Haigen in the background.

Leah has lost yet another tooth! Well, I pulled it out. It was so loose and I just couldn't stand it any longer and after MUCH coercion, I convinced her to let me pull it out. It made me really sad to get it out since it means her little girl smile would be changing for ever. Leah made me a mom and it is really hard for me to see her grow and change. She was VERY excited to have her little "window" in her mouth and she uses it as a straw hole. I love my toothless beauty!
