Why Poor(x3) Milli?

What happened?
Well, Milli and I were up at a church activity where we were learning some sewing skills. When you sew you often need to have your iron ready to press anything down. I was holding someones baby and talking about sewing with the other ladies while keeping my eye on Milli as she walked around when all of the sudden I heard this big "thud" and turned to see Milli was under one of the ironing boards and an iron on her hand! I rushed over, gave the baby to someone and grabbed Milli, who at this point was already crying in Maricela's arms. We quickly put her hand under cold water and then someone grabbed ice. Then Tiffany grabbed Milli so I could call and find out were to take her. InstaCare said I had to take her to Primary Children's. Abuela was at work and I had to have Dave come with me so sweet Sarah came home to watch my kids (God bless her!). We headed up to the Hospital were, after 4+ hours, they told us it looked like a third degree burn. That is the worst of all the burns. Sometimes the skin can look white but once removed the flesh is very bright and red, that would be a secon degree burn. However, once they removed the skin and revealed the flesh underneath it, it too was white! That is the worst case scenario.
What does this all mean now?
Milli is bandaged up. I have already called the Burn Unit at Primary Children's and we are waiting for a cancelation today, but we have an appointment tomorrow. If the flesh starts to show up with little red or pink spots that would be a good sign and it means that there is still live stuff under all of that. If it stays white then that means that they might have to do a skin graft, meaning they would take skin form her own body and replace that missing skin on her hand. I pray that some pink and red start to show up. I would hate for Milli to go through any more pain. Third degree burns take a very long time to heal. They often leave very bad scars and it also can restrict the movement to areas affected. The top of the hand doesn't have a lot of fatty tissue or even flesh so I worry about that as it heals. Now its just a waiting game.
I feel absolutely terrible. This could have been prevented. I cannot imagine the pain she must have felt! She is doing so good. She was a trooper through the whole thing. I know things like this can happen but I feel horrible that I wasn't watching her more closely. I love that little monkey more than I can say. She is resting and acting like herself.

I'm so sorry this happened! It makes my stomach turn over. This isn't anyone's fault. Don't blame yourself. It's just like we talked about on the phone, kids are fast and curious. Primary's is the best for dealing with stuff like this. She's in good hands. Good luck! Get better Milli!!!
Oh, poor baby! I know you feel bad, but don't! Things happen! I hope everything works out good for Milli!
I am so sorry!! I hope everything is okay & you can avoid a skin graft!
I will pray for pink and red dots. It's so hard when our kids get hurt. We can't be everywhere all the time. Don't blame yourself!
It still makes my stomach sick...poor baby.
I'll be praying for good color tomorrow. Best wishes.
...and I'm now thinking that maybe Milli needed to hang onto the chocolate more than us ;)
I am teary eyed after seeing that. Poor girl. Don't feel guilty Lau. You prevent things like that from happening every day. Things happen to everyone, even the best moms. You are definitely one of those. We will all pray for the red skin. Keep us updated. Good luck Lau.
I am so glad she is feeling and acting like herself. Praying for the pink!
I am so so sorry. I am holding back tears for you. It makes me so sad. I hope some pink shows up too. There have been so many little stupid accidents that have happened with Benjamin that I think, if only I was watching him closer. But you can't blame yourself and you can't put your kids in bubble wrap. You are such a good mom.
We are very concerned about Milli and hope and pray she'll be able to recover. We're glad you had help around you.
Oh, I'm so sad for for Milli! I think burns are the worst kind of pain so I can't imagine have a bad one. Poor thing. I hope she gets better soon.
Oh I am SO sorry! Poor thing! I hope things turn out okay.
Is very hard to express how I feel for Milli and you too...accidents happen Lau...even when you are watching CONSTANTLY. Lets just pray that her little hand heals soon and with lots of red in it!
a huge hugh for each one of you!
Lau you are an amazing, wonderful, caring, and loving mommy!! THIS IS NOT YOUR FAULT!! We will be praying for you and for Milli of course! Please keep us posted! Poor little sweatheart!
I am so sorry that happened Laura. I hope that everything turns out okay and that some pink starts showing. Love you!. Get well little Milli.
Poor little thing. Ironing boards and infants always make me so nervous. I had a close call with Stratton not too long ago.
OH my goodness Laura!! I can't believe this!! That is so crazy!! I hope little Milli start feeling better and starts showing some pink! :) Poor little princess!
