Pumpkin Carving

The long process documented

We finally got our pumpkins carved this morning. We have been meaning to do it all week but as you can see from our three previous post we have been a bit busy. This morning we all did our own. I cut out the tops and the kids pull out all the yuckies from inside the pumpkin. We separated the seeds for roasting when we were all done. After the pumpkins are all clean we drew their "faces", for Dave and I to carve it out. I really enjoy this tradition and I like to see our creativity flow. I also love to see Leah's progress in making faces and this year she has done some major improvements (however, I love her quirky ones from previous years). Mylo did not enjoy taking the junk out but still had a good time. Milli was a trooper and slept through the whole thing. Thank goodness Dylan, my nephew, was here to lend a hand.

The finished product

I usually make some cute face on my pumpkin and this year I decided to be funny/creative and write something on it. Dave usually writes "Slayer" on his and this year he decided to do the "Skullcandy" logo on it. However, I take full credit for his looking totally awesome because I drew it for him. I think they all turned out pretty cool.

Here they are all lit up!

Halloween Party with Abuela

Abuela had a Halloween party for the grand kids and the kids had a great time!

The kids proudly displaying their new sock Bats
They made sock Bats, super easy but for a little older kids, however, I had a great time helping them.

Preston eating his noodle face!

She made face food with noodles, meatballs, broccoli and a carrot for the mouth. They also had super cute witch ice cream. Abuela always tries to spend as much time with the kids as possible and they truly have a great time with her. She is a great GREAT abuela to them all! We love you abuela!!!!

"Fancy" Halloween Dinner

(In this photo: Me, Adriel, Emma, Chris and Dave (Leah took this one))
I like to do a "fancy" dinner to celebrate which ever holiday is coming up. So, for our Halloween Fancy Dinner we had our friends The Jenkins' over. We set the table really nice with Halloween colors everywhere.

The kid table was set with a black table cloth, orange and green plates, holiday napkins, spider forks, a batty center piece and worm cubes in their glasses. They ate a mix of veggies and some mummy dogs.

The BIG kid table was set with a long orange runner, black round placemats, halloween decor on the center of the table. We had white bean sausage soup which was really good. For desert we had a witch ice cream cones (no picture). The kids had a great time playing out side and making a big mess with all the toys (just what they are supposed to do). The BIG kids had a great time chit chatting and enjoying each others company. all in all we had a great time and I can't wait for the next holiday!

Tell 7 weird/interesting things about yourself or that have happened to you. . . then tag 7 others to do it too.

#7 I had my belly button pierced twice. You know those crazy teenager things, I took it out after I was married.

#6 When Dave and I were dating, we went on a river trip with his family and later to Sun Valley for few days. The very first day we got there, we decided to go roller blading. It was SUPER hot and I was wearing short, I mean, short shorts. As we were going a long we came to a little hill. I thought I could go down it no problem... well, there was a problem and instead of going to the grass to stop I just sat on the sidewalk, and I skitted about 20 feet down the little hill. I got the BIGGEST road rash ever on the top my thigh approximately 4 inches in diameter. I had to walk around in my underwear for two days because NOTHING could touch it and it was SOOO swollen it just killed. Needless to say I got to know my future in laws very well, or maybe they got to know ME really well.

#5 I LOVE doing hair. I have always wanted to go to Beauty School but have put it on the back burner until my kids are in school. However, I do have some "regulars", mostly family and I love it!

#4 I hate mowing the lawn. I have only mowed the lawn twice in my entire life. I am just not good at it.

#3 I cannot stand it when the cupboard doors are left open. I hate that!

#2 My mom, Leah and I all have the same middle name. I hope that Leah will name give her first daughter our middle name as well.

#1 Because I wanted to spend time with Dave in the winter time, I took up snowboarding 9 year ago. I love it. I just wish I could do some cool tricks.

Not Enough to Blog About....

So since I just don't have enough to blog about.... HAHAA! Totally kidding. I would love to blame my dirty house, my dirty laundry and my loads of filing to do on baby number three, but the truth is that I sit at the computer far too long blogging and looking at other blogs.

I want to make this blog into a book, once I hit the year mark. I think its great way of "journaling" about our family. With that same thought in mind I have been wanting to do a blog all about recipes that my little family enjoys to eat. This all came about when Karen passed away and none of us know how to make her very delicious lasagna.

So (drum roll please.....) I have started a new blog, where I will post our family's favorite recipes and later making OUR very own Tasty Trevino Treats blog cook BOOK! I hope that I can really stick to it and eventually have this book pass down to my children and grandchildren. I really enjoy cooking and baking and I think this is a fun way of sharing my recipes with, not only my fellow bloggers, but the generations that will follow!

You can come take a look and perhaps try some new things at Tasty Trevino Treats

Body Worlds

In this photo: Amy, me and Karalee

My Sister-in-laws, Amy and Karalee, and I went to Body Worlds yesterday. I have been wanting to go since I found out it was in Utah. I was AMAZING!!!! Unbelievable how the plastification is done and more amazing to see a glimpse into the human body. It was some what of a testimony builder. Our bodies are the most complex of things and I think only God could have created it. We spent about 2hours at the exhibition. I left with a greater appreciation for my body and how it works and how I need to take care of it. I also left with a greater love for my sis-in-laws. They are great!

I would highly recommend for everyone to go see it for themselves. It is totally worth it!

I must also add a huge thank you to my mom, she watched Karalee's Kids (as usual), Amy's little boy Ryan and my two littlest monkeys. It sure made our time at the exhibit so much more enjoyable. We all love and appreciate her!

Straw Skeletons and Square Pumpkins

Leah's skeleton has hair, can you tell?

Mylo's skeleton has a mohawk

The kids LOVE to do crafts. They always seem to be better behaved and more obedient and less needy when I take the time to do something with them. Today we made Halloween decorations with stuff we have around the house. I cut up some straws and they put them on the skeleton and the square pumpkins were fun and different. I learned that Mylo doesn't like to touch glue and Leah LOVES to do crafts. They wanted to do more so we make paper ghost. We hung our new decorations around the house and it seems to be more festive around here.

Mr. Smarty Pants

I had to run some errands this afternoon, after dropping Leah at school. I of course took Mylo and Milli along. Mylo just cracks me up all the time.... He really is a smart little kid. For example, when I ask them to clean up toys he will always say "but mom I am too little to clean up toys". Funny Mylo, you are just a little smarty pants!

Well, while we were headed to our first store Mylo said:

Mylo: Mom were do we have to run errands? Do we have to run errands at the park?

Me: Nope, We have to go to Costco and Smith's

Mylo: Do we have to do errands at McDonald's (big smile and a little giggle)?

Me: LOL... No you silly!

He totally made me laugh. I am sure in writing its not as cute, but the kid is a smarty pants. He tries to "trick" me all the time and he always says funny things. I just love my smarty pants.

Pumpkin Picking

In this photo: Diego, Mason, Leah, Dylan, Mylo and Preston

We went to the Pack Farms this afternoon. My brothers tagged a long with their kids and it was a fantastic day. I can't remember the last time I got to hang out with my brothers and their kids this long! It make me feel so blessed to have them. We had a such a great time. It was not in my plans to have them come but it sure was a nice day. I had to give my brothers TONS of directions, I can't believe they couldn't figure it out... When they FINALLY got there the kids all hugged, like they have never seen each other before, and played in the kid maze, they ran around like crazy. After that we walked along the pumpkin covered field and they each picked out a little pumpkin. They loved riding on the cart, thank goodness for two strong uncles to pull them around. We bought 123lbs of pumpkins! Holy cow that is a lot of pumpkin and I am sure they will look great once carved.

In this photo: Kids coming down form the maze; Marcos, Me, Esteban;
Hitching a ride from Esteban; Cute cousins on the hay stack;

After the pumpkin patch we went to the Gateway to window shop. Marcos and I were saying how wonderful it was to do this. Since we have been married 9-10 years we have never gone out just us siblings. It was so nice (don't get me wrong, I love my sis-in-laws too). I love these guys, they are great dads and great uncles to the kids. The kids are always playing around with them and joking with them too. I felt the love we share as we talked about random things and I truly hope we can make this a new family tradition!

I have to add that the kids were fantastic, truly a joy!

As we headed to our cars we ran into a friend from Ecuador! It is always fun to see old friends.

Red Slippers

Yesterday, while running errands, I looked down and to my very big surprise I had forgotten to change my slippers and put on my shoes before leaving. I was in a rush before we left but it was not my intention to leave with house slippers on. It was quite funny to Leah and I, but I put me in a remembering sort of a mood. I just got these slippers this past weekend. They used to be Karen's. All day I was thinking about her. I also got a sewing machine and some sewing stuff, a few cooking magazines, an old spaghetti machine, some talks she had given and a letter sent to Al from some friends expressing their love to him and their love for Karen. I really never thought that these things would have so much meaning to me. The red slippers on my feet have reminded me so much of Karen. I miss her so much! I am sure that when I get to my sewing I will be thinking of her. However, most precious of all are her talks. I never heard her speak in public or bare her testimony of the gospel, which she loved. As I read her talks and learned more about her love for the gospel and how she was converted my soul was filled with joy. I hadn't realized, even to this day, how much we had in common.

As I reflected on the spiritual part of her passing I put my hand in my winter coat, which has not been used since last cold weather, and found a hand out from a lesson given in Young Women by "cutsie" Sarah. She taught about the Spirit. The handout was to help us discern if we had the Spirit within us or not. As I read the list under "When you have the Spirit" it said:
  • You feel happy and calm
  • You feel full of light
  • Your bosom burns
  • You feel generous
  • No one can offend you
  • Your feel confident in everything you do
  • You feel outgoing and anxious to be with others
  • You are glad when others succeed
  • You want to make others happy, you bring out the best in others
  • You look forward to attending Church services
  • You gladly and willingly perform Church services, you are anxious to magnify your calling
  • You love to pray
  • You want to keep all of the Lord's commandments
  • There is no anger in your speech
  • You are in control of your appetites and passions
  • You are glad to be alive
I wish I could say I feel this way all the time, but I can't. However, Karen made me feel great. She had the Spirit with her.

The last time I saw Karen was Sunday before her surgery. We went over for a Sunday dinner. We had Tamales, Spanish Rice and a Black Bean Salad along with some salsa. It was a Mexican dinner and it was "delicioso". We laughed a lot. We looked at baby pictures of Karen and her family. While she got much deserved foot massage (from my mother). The picture above is the last picture I have of Karen, always in the background letting others shine. I miss her "shy twinkle in her eye and her willingness to help with her big hearted unconditional love", as her friends so perfectly put it in their letter to Al.

On one of her talks she spoke about fellowshipping. In it she says "I know we can make a difference in someone's life by the things we say and do. True fellowshipping has to be sincere and sustained. It can't be just to fulfill an assignment. In both cases I have talked about the effort to be a friend was and extended over a long period of time. I think this is what our Heavenly Father expects of us".

I truly feel in debt to Karen for making me feel so much as part of her family. We have gone over to Trevino's house several times since her passing and I must say her absence has been felt. As I wear her red slippers I am filled with memories of Karen and the great times we shared, including our Utah Gymnastics meets, manicures, IKEA trips, our phone conversations (which I miss the most) and even playing Guitar Hero on the Wii. I wish so badly that I could just tell her one more time how much I love her and give her one last hug. It seems unreal that almost a month has gone by. It has felt like very long month with out her. Milli's middle name was also Karen's middle name, I think Milli has those same beautiful Karen eyes. I am so blessed to have had her in my life!

g.n.i

Leah had a few girls over for a "girly night in". She was deserving of this get together for a while and I thought this would be the perfect time to have it. They had a great time. Mylo of course tagged a long but, who would mind such a cute little tag-a-long? When the girls arrived Leah took the role. It was very funny to me. She has been writing the girls names ALL week and so she read them out loud as though she was a teacher (she is too cute!). They watched "The Diamond Castle" Barbie movie. It's a movie about friendship and I am sure these little girls will be good little friends as they continue to grow. Leah and I put together a fun snack bar full of popcorn, along with flavorings, m&m's, gummy worms, twizzlers and some much needed H2O. The g.n.i was only a couple of hours, so when the movie was over they played some board games and jumped around like they were loaded on sugar... oh wait, they were! I am so glad to have all these cute girls over and I am looking forward to the next "g.n.i".

Gabi, Leah's cousin, slept over. Even though they are a couple of years a part, these two get a long great and they have a lot in common including their diva attitudes and SUPER fun personalities. We took pictures of them pretending to sleep, making funny faces and just being silly. They were up way to early, but it was such a fun time!

Now I need a G.N.O. of my own!

Cake Pops

I saw these super cute "cake pops" on Bakerella. I love this blog. They have fun treats and they can make the perfect cake pops. I have wanted to give it a try. Its always more fun to try new things with a friend, so Tiffany and I got to it. It was harder than I thought it would be, but it was fun. The kids LOVED these yummy cake pops dipped in white chocolate. You can make them yourself by visiting, Bakerella. It was a fun time. I wish I were as talented as this girl so I could make them more often. Its a true labor of love.

Thanks for trying these out with me Tiff.

Fun new Hairdo's

I came across these fun new blogs all about girly hairdo's (while reading through a friends blog). I have had a great time doing Leah's hair lately and I think she looks so cute. I thought I would share for those of you who have girls with beautiful long locks. I have done some with my own variation and "twists". I had no idea there were people who could do these things with little girls hair and I LOVE IT!

9 Years and Counting...

Dave and I celebrated out 9th Year Anniversary yesterday! I can't believe it. Time has gone by so fast and so many great things have happened to us in the last nine years. It was fun to reflect on the past as we went on our lunch date. Of course the top three things that have come to us is our three little terrors/monkeys/angles/kids. However, we have enjoyed our trips alone, most of all. Before we had Leah we went to Argentina to visit family, while there we went to a beach area called Mar del Plata. It was SO nice just to walk on the beach by ourselves and do silly things, that of course we wouldn't even think about doing now ;). Hawaii was a blast and we want to go back. Our little over "nighters" up the mountains have been a great time away as well. All in all I am just so grateful for this one amazing blessing the Lord has given me to spend my life (and eternity) with Dave and the family we now have. I love him!

(BTW- We went to Cheesecake Factory and were going to watch a movie but Dave is way to busy with video stuff so that is all we did. Its nice to splurge on lunch though).

Mylo vs. Door Frame

Mylo was having a bad day an decided to pick a fight with the door frame... and he lost! The truth is that Mylo wanted to wear his "skateboarding" shoes, which are just a little too big. He tripped over them and fell, face first into the door frame in his room. When I saw him hit I knew it was not going to be good. I checked out his mouth, which was bleeding and sure enough he busted something. He hit his face diagonally from chin to cheek. As I checked his mouth I could instantly see that he had hurt his teeth. Not sure how bad, since I am not a dentist. I showed Dave and sure enough we knew we had to take him... somewhere... His front tooth and second from the right were bent in towards the left. We weren't sure if we should take him to Primary Children's, InstaCare, his Pediatrician or a dentist. After some phone calls, we figured out we had to take him to the dentist. They were able to reposition his teeth back into the "right" place. The picture really doesn't do it justice. He was really tough and soon he will have two little brown/gray teeth. Good thing he will get new ones and that he still has them!

Tickle, Tickle = Giggle, Giggle

We really enjoy going out on walks with the kids after dinner. Well, the other day we went out as usual. Milli is usually in her stroller but this time I decided to carry her in my arms. Leah and Mylo were playing around, as they always do, in front of us. Leah turned around suddenly and started playing with Milli. Milli thought it was SO funny she was CRACKING up, not just a little crack up a BIG crack up! It was so dang cute. We were all laughing with her as her laugh was so contagious. I was so mad at myself for not having my camera in my pocket. I am still kicking myself and this is the best I could do. This little crack-up was induced by my tickles... so not as cute and impromptu as the other day on our walk. Still, it makes me smile... hopefully it makes you smile too! ENJOY! (it takes a second so keep watching)

I want a free Purse!!!

Guys head on over and see if you can get a free purse too! I could TOTALLY use a new FREE purse... Good Luck!
