What was I thinking?

After I had Mylo I started walking with Melissa and my mom in the mornings. I remember telling myself that I would run up to Elephant Rock that summer. Well, I was never able to do it. As many of the goals I set myself I have a hard time reaching them. Now three years later and after having a baby, only 8.5 weeks ago, I have told myself that I wouldn't wait two years before getting back into shape. I have signed up to do a race up Farmington Canyon with my sister-in-laws and a friend. I am not sure what I was thinking when I signed up. Last Saturday, for part of our training, we did part of the trail that we will be running (well hiking really because there is NO way I can run up that thing). It was grueling, to say the least. I had run with Maricela a couple of times and I felt good but after running up a Mountain I thought my dream or goal of running up to Elephant Rock would never happen, or perhaps it would take a VERY long time for me to achieve that goal. I have already signed up to do this race and I am going to do it! So to train some more I asked Ashley to come run with me. She is in far better shape than I am. We started up Mueller Park in the hopes of getting to Elephant Rock, but really I thought we would just go up about 2 miles and head back down. It was encouraging to have a friend to run towards, she kept going and since I don't like to be in the woods by myself I too had to keep going. We finally made it to Elephant Rock! It was amazing. It took us about 57 minutes and some very sore legs. After three years I have finally made it. I was a bit emotional as I feel it was a great accomplishment and I can't wait to do it again. Its like life really, we want to return to our Heavenly Father and we have to work to get there. Sometime we "slow down" our progression but so long as we keep our "final" destination in mind then I feel we will really get there. I am so glad that I have been able to count of friends and family to encourage me to get there and to finish the "race". I can't wait for the day I can say that I finally got there.

You were amazing! I really am not in much better shape than you at all, I have just been doing this longer. I love running to gospel comparisons. I have a number of them myself, and am glad that you have found a connection as well. Keep it up girl, you have a determination to be reckoned with. Run on sister!

Good luck with that you crazy girl!! It always takes me like a year to get back into shape after kids. It's impressive that you set so many goals though.

I don't know where Elephant Rock is, but hurray to you. I'm still wondering what I was thinking, but I too am going to do this, even if it kills me. I just hope it doesn't.

Way to go! "I'm so proud of you" as your mom wouldn't say, but does anyway.

Congrats Laura! I am so proud of you! I am a great starter of projects... but a poor finisher of them. Your example inspires me to keep pushing and achieve those goals. Love you!
