Never ending....Laundry!!!

I am the worst at doing laundry. I don't shrink things or wash a red shirt with my whites to make them look pink... that is not what I mean. I just suck at doing laundry. It will take me a week to get things folded and then another week to put them away. Just to turn around and have another gazillion loads to do! It's a never ending task at our house. Here's a list of all the things included in last weeks hamper:

burp clothes - 2
shorts - 2
sweatshirts - 1
bib - 3
dish towels - 4
baby blankets - 1
peed on sheet set - 1
socks - 42 pair
pants - 25
T shirts - 19
kid t's - 32
onsies - 18
p.j's - 21
undies - 32
towels - 3

It took me about 3 hours to fold 216 items. Way too long! I just can't get a handle on the laundry. I already have two loads waiting to be folded and one that is waiting to be hung! This doesn't even include all the sheets, towels and rugs needed to be done weekly as well. I don't know how others do it. But I am ALL ears, please tell me what you do to stay on top of your laundry. I need advice!!!

Maybe your kids can help putting them away after is folded my kids love doing it...and then for hanging I do two piles for each of them and lay all the things that need to be hang except for pants nice and flat on top of each other and then get the hanger into each item still stacked in a pile and then they get their little stool and hang piece by piece in their closet...they really do like doing it that how the little method started they just wanted to help and I wanted them to help without be having to have to do it again later and this works they do a good job.

I don't have any advice, but I do have a deal for you. If you will come here and wash my dishes, I will go there and do your laundry! Deal?

I love your face in the picture! I also hate Laundry. I swear it multiplies in the laundry basket. I do laundry 3 days a week and I still don't get everything done.

I feel just like you! I do Laundry once a week for all the clothes and I fold it just fine, But I hate putting it away and I usually run out of time and just put the folded piles on the dresser or bed. It drives my husband crazy. But hey when you have 6 people to do laundry for they should be glad it even gets done. But nevertheless I feel like I can never get it perfect either. So you are so not alone on this one! =)

If I have laundry that needs to be folded and Davis is watching TV, I bring the basket over to him and ask him to fold it. He doesn't mind since he's just sitting down anyway. So I agree with Sarah's comment - do it in front of the TV. By the way, I LOVE that picture!

Shoot! I thought you LOVED doing laundry and I was going to ask you to do mine too! Guess I'll have to find someone else to do it! Bummer!

LOL!! The laundry was the bane of my existence... I HATED IT! I hated it even more after Alex was born and the chore quadrupled. GRRRR....

My old routine consisted of washing clothes "as needed" and piling the clothes out of the dryer onto the bed in the guest room where they stayed in a huge heap to be rummaged through in search of socks and undies on daily basis. Folding only occurred when we were expecting house-guests and needed the room. (i.e. rarely to NEVER) and required three hour fold-a-thon. I hated it!!

But now that Alex is here, the grandparents have been coming into town a lot so I lost my laundry storage facility. Something had to change, and piling the clothes onto our bed, and shifting them to the floor each day wasn't working for me, it seemed like to much work to do when was I avoiding the work of folding in the first place.

What I have discovered works for us: a load a day. Just one (two on Fridays when I do the sheets). I put the load in the washer first thing in the morning, about 7:00, around eight as I am walking by on the way to do something else, I swap it to the dryer, and around nine I fold that load and put it away while it is still warm. It took me three weeks of doing this to make it a habit, and now it is working for me. Wahoo!

Thanks for all your advice or understanding with this very hard task of mine. I must say Crissy, you are a genius and I will start Monday, actually I will start tomorrow. That schedule will work out perfectly! Thanks my darling friendSSS!

This is what I do...each of my kids has their own basket. After I fold the clothes, I put them in the corresponding basket and they are in charge of taking the basket to their room and putting the clothes away. When the basket is emptied, it becomes their dirty clothes basket. They fill it up and then on laundry day they bring it to the laundry room. I wash, dry, and fold, and then refill their basket with their clean clothes. When they are older, I will just sort the clean clothes into their baskets and let them fold it themselves. Won't that be heaven!

I wish I could help! I have the same problem!! one thing that helps me is to fold while watching a movie that I enjoy...but it doesn't help with the amount of laundry it just helps with the enjoying it part! It seems like everytime you have a baby laundry multiplies by three not 2 or one but three...don't you think? Hey Laura, do you mind emailing me your address!? I would love to send you a christmas card!! my email is lisayorgason@hotmail.com

Dude I feel your pain. I hate folding and putting away. I say this as a huge pile of clothes is sitting on my couch so I will fold them and put them away. But I just pushed them to the side and watched t.v. I know I'm lazy! Can't wait to get to UTah and see you guys!

My suggestion is HANG everything. Well, almost everything. Hanging is so much faster than folding. I hang everything except socks, undies and dishtowels.

Oh I hate doing dishes & laundry but nothing like floors. I am very protective of my laundry. I worked at Gap when I was younger so clothes must be folded professionally. Nate does it wonderfully. The kids try really hard. I like almost everything hung dried so that makes it much easier. I hate putting it in the drier because some spin dries on no heat etc etc. I just make it too much of a chore. No anwers here. Sorry!

this is just a suggestion, i don't know if you'll think its gross, but you could have the kids wear the same pj's all week too...They wear clean ones everyday, but i'm sure they don't sleep walk and roll around in dirt..hehehe

I have this same problem! I do laundry one day a week, and by the end of the day I have a pile the size of a small mountain in my room. I've started making Isaac sort the clean laundry into piles as one of his weekly chores (Adam's, Isaac's, Jason's, towels, etc), and then I have the boys all fold and put away THEIR OWN clothes. It took a few times to get them trained, but they have been doing it for a few years now, and they do a great job! Even Jason (he's still only 2) pitches in. Now I only have fold my and Chris's clothes, as the boys will also help with towels and washclothes when they are done. In short, we made it a family effort. I still don't enjoy laundry, but I don't resent it as much as I used to either because we are all working together.

No advice, but thanks for the reminder. I'm off to fold my whites, which have been sitting in the dryer since Saturday. Again, Thanks ;(

No advice from me... I HAAAATE laundry too. I'll do anything-- toilets, nasty old dishes, dusting, vacuuming, etc...before I want to do laundry. Why does it have to be so painful??? Anyhow, just wanted to say "hi". The fact that you hate laundry as much as I do makes me love ya even more. :)
